I started my journey not very long ago.
The journey of 15 books, nine alternating main characters, and one big, epic, adventure lasting in one amazing world.
Ups and downs and flaws and all, I made it without being eaten, bitten (okay, MAYBE Meg did that once), or any other brutal thing that could happen to a human being (or demigod, god, dryad, naiad, satyr, faun, etc.)!!! Other than, of course, a couple tears, and a lotta laughs.
I was skeptical — very skeptical — at first, despite all the times I had been asked (actually, begged and ordered and pleaded) to read Percy Jackson (wait a moment – had I not mentioned what book I was talking about earlier). And did I tell those people that I was skeptical? Nah. I didn’t wanna risk getting killed or anything. My friends are scary.
Anyway, I made it through that first series of five and yippee!! I enjoyed it. Admittedly, it wasn’t a fave, especially since no one all that important died, but I still had a fun ride.
Then I took a break. Nothing particularly exciting happened, and nothing relating to this happened either, so um, I don’t really know why I’m wasting time talking about it.
After my break to read some other books, I started Heroes of Olympus! Throughout the first book I was wondering: WHERE’S PERCY? Percy had never been one of my fave characters (please keep the Rayna-smashing to a minimum here), but it would’ve been awesome to see a familiar face. Did I get that? Nope. It made me enjoy the story a little less than I would have otherwise, but I made it through and hey: another fun ride. Then the second book came along, and we got Percy! Except that he didn’t even know who he was. Great.
But I enjoyed the book, and then the third book to the fifth book was all incredibly awesome and yadda yadda yadda. I loved seeing the crew on the Argo II. And I loved pretending I was there with them. I was also so incredibly glad that Nico Di Angelo and Reyna something-something had a fair amount of page time in book five, and they even earned the spot of two of my fave characters in the whole of the 15 books. Nico may even make it to my top ten characters of all time, or at least fifteen?
Anyway, Heroes of Olympus was the best of the lot, because of the characters. Yeah we needed more time with their friendships, and a couple of them weren’t the best, but I still enjoyed them. (and I also wish Leo had actually died because that would’ve been a whole lot more impactful, but oh well)
Next up came Trials of Apollo. At first, it was just ehhhhhhh. Meg was meh, Apo- sorry, Lester was annoying, and I just wanted to DNF it for being another “oh we have to save the world and may or may not die, but in the end won’t because we’re the awesome main characters” Greek mythology-surrounded book. And yes, those were my exact thoughts. Kind of. No one remembers their EXACT thoughts.
But I got through it, because A. Leo had a good bit of pagetime in the second book, and I needed that even if he was totally subdued and unfunny. And also because I heard that a certain something would happen (I’m trying to avoid spoilers here, but it’s something to do with Jason 😗), and I just needed to read it.
Thank goodness, because I actually liked Apollo and Meg’s growth in the last two books, and I’m glad I read them.
So… I’m kinda sad now, because I want more. More jokes from them, more friendship, more interaction, more Solangelo (yes this made it to my list 😤) more Meg and Apollo, moreeeeee. But apart from the Disney+ series and possibly some standalones, I’m not getting anything more.
APART from the awesome fan creations like fanart, memes, fanfics, videos, and more. Cause’ that’s what fandoms are for. I’ve already started a few fanarts of Nico, Reyna, and Annabeth! (Percy too but his face keeps turning out horrible..) So I’m already in the spirit!
(still sad tho)
And that’s all I want to say. This was kind of a review of all three series’, but honestly more of a rambling. Also, this hasn’t been edited at all, and I also started the post off in a kind of cringe-worthy way, so kindly ignore all that 😬
Are you a Percy Jackson fan? WILL YOU SHOW ME FANART YOU’VE MADE?
