☆ art tips from a total pro // part 2

read this post on my site!! looks way nicer :>

hello, hello people, elves, demigods, witches, wizards, crows, and all! Hope you’re doin’ well. 🌻🌻
Remember that one art tips post I wrote last year? (If no, then go read it smh) Well folks, you’re finally getting the much-awaited (not) second part!
Do I have any actual ideas ready beforehand? haha. nope. But I feel aRtSy, so here’s hoping I can come up with some tips for y’all on the spot.
And, bonus, I’m gonna include a couple random doodles of mine that I haven’t included in a post before. 😌

if you’re not feeling very motivated about drawing in your sketchbook, then it’s great to sketch messily in pen or pencil in a separate notebook. Because let’s face it- as much as we know that sketchbooks are meant for mess, a lot of people (including me) want their sketchbooks to look all nice and cohesive – aesthetic, if you will – and that can make you just not want to draw-
So drawing in another notebook is really fun to do sometimes.

I was sitting in starbucks today, and I just wanted to doodle some people who were around me, so I used a notebook that I usually write songs/poems/etc. in, which ended up being a nice change, because I didn't mind being messy. Image of this on the left.

don’t know what to draw? Look at objects/persons around you. Not only will you be getting quick ideas on what to draw, you’ll also get to practice at the same time. Win-win, folks!! Plus, you may notice little things around that you hadn’t before, while looking for cool stuff to draw. Like that person walking by with mismatched socks (totally not me, haha). Or that kite in the sky which nobody noticed (totally not inspired by a poem of mine~ good grief the shameless self-promoting)

✩ every now and then, go back and look at your old art. It’s pretty inspiring to see that you’ve improved, especially when often times, it just doesn’t feel that way. oof.
Also, redraw some old art! Then you can really compare the two, and see how much your style has changed/developed. (And just feel good about yourself and how awesome you are. Hehe.)

doodling in pen is very fun to do!! especially in class, or when you're out somewhere. You can even keep a lil' notebook just for random pen sketching -- I have one. Which I haven't touched in far too long.

if you’re struggling with drawing something, keep attempting to draw it until you improve. But no, not just mindlessly drawing the same thing again and again, expecting to get better that way. That’s just the definition of insane (;
You have to learn and observe stUff from your previous tries-
I mean, picture trying to draw a shoe. In attempt number one, you got the laces, and the sole on point. But the length/width of the shoe is off, so the whole thing looks wonky. So, improve on that. How do you make the proportions more accurate? Try again with that new knowledge.

Yes, my example was indeed shoes because of this.
Try filling an entire sketchbook page with attempts to draw that thing, then highlight your favourites with watercolour/some other material you enjoy using. It looks really good trust me.

That’s about it, people!! Hope you found these tips helpful~ and liked the formatting of this post because I love it. 😌✌ have a great day, folks!! And leave your own tips in the comments *cough* I certainly need them- *cough*
G’bye.
